Stools
Winners of the category "stools":

Wolfgang Wetzig:
This charming little stool with exposed legs and concave seat was created out of teak wood remains and made purely by hand. All connections are mortised and each secured with two wedges. This was quite a challenge with the exposed legs, the inclined or even round rails. The stool impressed us in terms of design by its simple frame and creatively by the high level of fitting accuracy of the connections manufactured with Japanese tools. Furthermore, we thought the wonderful presentation of this item of furniture to be worthy of a prize.

Guy Mallinson:
“Wisborn Stool” is what Guy Mallison from England calls his high elegant kitchen stool made of ash. He procures the material from the region, the stools are made purely by hand using axes, a pole lathe, a drawknife and scraper planes, thereby paying attention to the exact grain structure for aesthetic reasons as well as for reasons of stability. Just like with the old Windsor stools Mallinson also does without glue. The connections become even more resilient with the drying and contraction of the material. The seat is also tan-barked leather, has a cushioning made of horsehair and can be easily removed for cleaning with the aid of clasps.

Erich Hornung:
By trade a programmer Erich Hornung created a wonderful balance with stool making: "Stools are my passion – they are practically the only things I build". We were immediately convinced of his handicraft skills and the beauty of his items of furniture on the basis of a complete photo series. This is our absolute favourite.
